verview of General Insurance Business in 2010
In 2010, Thai economy grew at a rate of 5.0-7.5% and the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) was at 8%.
Consumption rates in all sectors increased, especially the government sector who has provided continuous supports
and promotions to the business and industrial sectors, despite the effects of political unrest in the beginning of
the year.
In a period of 11 months in 2010, the general insurance business, especially in marine and transport
insurance segment continued to grow at a rate higher than that in the previous year. This condition indicates that the
exporters and importers are buying insurance coverage from local insurers. The key performer in the industry is motor
insurance whose market share is 59.50%. In 2010 (January-November), the general insurance business saw a total
premium income of 111,589.817 million Baht or an increase of 12.62% over the previous year.

Claim payments in a period of 11 months of 2010 was 50,727.18 million Baht while the loss ratio in the same
period was 54.04%, an increase from 51.84% in the same period of last year. Followings are detail of the claim
payments in 2010.
