Report of the Miscellaneous, Accident and
Health Insurance Committee
1. 200-baht Insurance Program (Micro-insurance)
The Committee, together with the Office of Insurance Commission, had followed the public policy of using the
insurance system to enhance people’s quality of life through the development of insurance products, distribution
channels, and one-stop claim payment service to serve all groups of people. To serve this purpose, the “200-baht
insurance” (Micro-insurance) was developed. The 200-baht insurance is a Personal Accident insurance which the
premium is as low as 200 baht per year, providing the limit of the loss of life as high as 100,000 baht. Insurable
person must be between 20-60 years old and can buy at most 2 policies. 42 member companies have joined in this
program. The opening ceremony for the program was held under the theme “Micro-insurance for all people” on
November 25, 2013 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.
2. Insurance for Inbound Tourists Project
Ministry of Public Health had a policy to have insurance for inbound tourists coming to Thailand and asked
the Thai General Insurance Association and the Thai Life Assurance Association to submit insurance policies for
consideration. Therefore, the Committee had drafted and proposed a coverage plan for inbound tourists coming to
Thailand to Department of Health Service Support. The minimum premium was 100 baht for the coverage limit of
100,000 baht and applicable to 15-day visa. Choices of coverage for 30-day, 60-day and 90-day visa were also
available.
3. Main Season Rice Insurance for Crop Year 2013-2014 (Micro-insurance)
The Committee, together with Fiscal Policy Office (FPO), Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Co-operatives
(BAAC) and 3 insurance companies, namely Dhipaya Insurance Plc., Thaivivat Insurance Plc., and Chaopraya
Insurance Plc., had undertaken the Main Season Risk Insurance for crop year 2013-2014. The premium rate was
revised based on risk of the areas. A meeting was held to clarify the detail about the project for the crop year 2013-
2014 to the member companies on July 19, 2013 at the Thai General Insurance Association.
4. Improving the Boat Passenger Liability Insurance
The Committee, together with the Marine Department, had revised and improved the Boat Passenger
Liability Insurance to extend the coverage for medical expenses, disability, and loss of life of passenger in
comparison to the coverage under the Protection for Motor Vehicle Victims Act B.E.2535. Initially, the coverage for
loss of life or total permanent disability was extended to 200,000 baht/person and for medical expense to 30,000
baht/person.
