9. Activities Implemented by the Office of the Arbitration
The Office of the Arbitration has been in operation for 17 years. The number of dispute cases it handled in
2011 was 5,216, a decrease of 2,842 cases or 35%, compared with the previous year. The total amount of claim
in these dispute cases in 2011 was 204 million Baht. The highest amount in a single case was 1.3 million Baht.
The Office completed handling a total of 8,815 dispute cases which 1,135 cases or 13% reached final decisions
while 5,199 cases or 59% were compromised by the Office of the Secretary-General of the Arbitration, 2,481
cases, or 7% withdrawn. The total financial value of all cases handled in 2011 was about 76 million Baht and as of
the end of December 2011, 5,104 cases are cases in which Samphan Insurance and Commercial Insurance Co., Ltd.
are the dispute parties, 2,481 cases pending, 2,623 cases are awaited to be settled and contested and 485
cases are being reviewed by the arbitrators.
10. The Insurance Premium Rating Bureau (IPRB) Operating Performance 2011
The Insurance Premium Rating Bureau (IPRB) is an independent organization founded by the General
Insurance Association (GIA) which officially commenced major operations on April 4, 2005.
In 2011, IPRB has accomplished 3 key missions as follows:
1. To be the hub of insurance knowledge and information portal for Thai non-life insurance industry.
- Improved data warehouse of insurance policy and claim database.
- Tested and launched IPRB Information Services system in Voluntary Motor, Compulsory Motor and
Fire & IAR section.
- Published IPRB newsletters on a quarterly basis, aiming to stress the importance of actuarial work
and bring up interesting actuarial issues.
- Continuously improved www.iprbthai.org, the hub of information portals for GIA members and any
interested parties.
2. To analyze ‘Reference Loss Costs’ for various lines of business.
- Updated Fire & IAR Reference Loss Cost.
- Studied Compulsory Motor Reference Loss Cost.
- Performed the study of Health Insurance Reference Loss Cost.
