6. Natural Disaster Risks Study Center
Implemented the Natural Disaster Risks Study Center Project by setting up a system that applies satellite
image information and geographical information, especially information on flooding in cooperation with the Geo-
Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency or GISTDA. The project includes the development of
a map prototype and model for assessment of the flood-related risks all over Thailand, based on satellite and other
support information, gathered in the past 5 years (2006 to 2010) and additional information in 2011. The partners
to this project are to jointly analyze and interpret the information and create a map of areas, susceptible to
flooding. They also write a map program on soft file and designed the prototype to be used for projecting flooding
incidents that may occur in the future. The initial target areas are the 16 provinces along the Chao Phraya and
Ta Chin River.
The Committee organized a press conference and the signing of memorandum of Understanding
ceremony in August 5, 2011. The program is scheduled to commence in February 2012.
